Sun May 30 17:56:06 EDT 2004: gack… way too trendy. pls forget i said anything. :)
I’ve always liked the idea behind Purple
Numbers. Making smaller units of text addressable just makes
sense. I’m not the sort of guy who writes novels in his blog
posts, but I’ve often wished, when citing another
blogger’s epic-length posting, that I could point to a
smaller bit of it. The usual workaround (“do a search for
frobnitz and you’ll be close to the interesting
part”) is even uglier than most of the wack hacks we put up
with. #
I’ve come up with a decidedly low-tech way of working them
into my blog here, and it’s painless enough to try, at least
for the longer posts. I don’t expect any breakage, after all,
they’re just a few extra anchors. #
Let’s go. #
One problem is that they’re really only “perma” when they show up on an individual entry page. I’d rather them not display at all on the front page. CSS “display:none” doesn’t seem to be doing the trick, though. :( #
